Catch me on Channel 4 tomorrow morning

March 14, 2009

If you’re awake at around 7:40 a.m. tomorrow morning, turn on WNBC Channel 4 (the New York City NBC affiliate) to watch me being interviewed about my just released Happily Ever AfterDivorce: Notes of a Joyful Journey. It will be my first TV appearance.

Don’t think I’m not just a little nervous.

Will I be too wordy?  Will I stumble and say “uh” every other word?  Or maybe I’ll do a Caroline Kennedy … you know?  Most important, how is my hair going to look, given that it’s a total crap shoot what my unruly curls decide to do from day to day?

What’s going to calm me down is to remember that it’s not about me, of course.  It’s about that one woman (or man) sitting home in pajamas, miserable, certain that she will never have the courage to leave a marriage that she knows has no hope of repair.  Maybe she’s wondering, as I often did, how many more years are left in her life in which to be as miserable as she is now.  Because of course, she would never have the courage – or the financial means – or the self-esteem – or the heart to hurt her kids – to do anything about making a change.

I’ll be talking to her.

In the meantime, I hope you watch.  And if you get a chance, please write and tell me how my hair looked.
