Book Signing at Book Expo America

May 30, 2009

No matter how many times I do it, I love to do book signings.  It was especially exciting for this first-time author, who still sometimes finds it surprising that total strangers actually want to read what I wrote.

But there is nothing quite Signing books at BEAlike the experience of doing a book signing at BEA (Book Expo America), at the Javits Center in New York City, in the company of the entire book industry, including publishers, editors, agents, booksellers, librarians, publishing consultants, other authors, and literally thousands of just plain interested readers.

And yet, even signing for a long line of readers, there is a particular thrill when I get to meet each person, one by one, ask his or her name and include a personal note above my autograph.

But what particularly gratified me today was how often someone requested that the book be inscribed for someone else – a friend, daughter, or other relative going through or recently divorced. It’s exactly what I had in mind for the book to be: a message of “Cheer up – it’s going to get better.”

What more can I say? It was a great day.
